I am slightly grumpy.

It's a Monday, I am sitting in bed with an icepack on my throbbing leg, watching my hopes of not getting into work at a stupid hour kind of fading, and it's a beautiful day out, but I won't get to enjoy it.

Yes, yes, woe is me. I know. So I am going to try and post here for a minute and focus on some things that are making me happy instead:

  • My brother-in-law recently got a kitten, who is absolutely adorable. We went to visit him and my parents-in-law yesterday out in the Boston area. You know, for Easter Sunday. The kitten rides on one's shoulder, is curious about everything, and has few preconceived notions, other than a total fearlessness about the world and an optimism that every stranger out there is just a friend he hasn't made yet.

  • I finished a new fic last night, for the first time in a quite a long time. I had given up hope that it would ever get finished, because it was kind of dark and it was difficult to write the characterizations, and I realized that I was actually a little afraid of writing a scene I knew wanted to happen but wasn't sure I could pull off. But it is done, thanks to a lot of handholding and insights from [livejournal.com profile] daybreak777
  • , who is going to beta it for me today. It's a response to the long-passed "Little Black Dress Challenge" on [livejournal.com profile] gaeta_squee. I'm glad to have finally "kicked it out of the nest" as [livejournal.com profile] daybreak777 is fond of saying.
  • On a slightly-related note, I have joined the comm, [livejournal.com profile] ficfinishing, with the goal of finishing a Hoshi fic that is close to done but is giving me trouble. So far, I am pleased with its results. One of the writing exercises the comm suggested is part of what helped me finish the fic I mentioned above. It seems like a very organized comm so far, and I am optimistic that it's going to help me bang out some of the fics I've had waiting around for a long time. At the rate these fics are going, I've been starting to think that I might never finish them before the interest in the BSG fandom dies out! [livejournal.com profile] danniisupernova, you may be happy to know that while I had to start with a smaller fic to be in accordance with the comm's rules, "From a Balance Beam" is going to be the fic I tackle in Round 13.
  • I have been reading my good friend [livejournal.com profile] falafel_musings's story, Secrets and Whispers. This is the link to part 1, but you could read pretty much at any point and it would work as a standalone. If you like Baltar/Gaeta, it's a wonderful ride through their entire arc. It's full of everything a B/G shipper wants - humor, heartbreak, angst. Warning: You'll be spoiled if you haven't seen through "Blood on the Scales" and no matter what, you better bring your tissues.
  • I have started to work on the garden in my backyard. The lily/daffodils bed is mulched and happily bearing beautiful yellow and white flowers I can see from my bed through the deck window, so this makes me very happy. The vegetable plots still need a lot of work, but I've gotten one ready for planting spinach and lettuce, so that pleases me. Unfortunately, the leg pain is kind of interfering with that, but I'm determined to not let that get to me this week, as much as I can. I am trying to believe in the power of icepacks, ibuprofen and my chiropractor. Maybe a little accupuncture too, if I can get all the way over to Amherst.
    • I am going to DragonCon this year! [livejournal.com profile] grinninfoole and I talked about it in the car on the way home from Easter dinner and he has committed to taking time off that week in order to be able to make the trip. My job sometime today is to reserve DC passes and see if I can still reserve a hotel room in one of the ridiculously expensive host hotels, in the hopes that we can share the room with some friends if our friend in Atlanta can't put us up instead. Is there anyone who's interested in possibly sharing the cost of an insanely expensive hotel suite among possibly up to four or five people?

Ok, off to do something productive! Feeling slightly less grumpy!

Oh, you're going? Oh, I'd absolutely LOVE to see you. We both would. Definitely let's make plans.

There should be at least six 13th Colonists there, including Michael and I. I'm planning to get T-shirts made with a big "13" on them for all of us. We've already got our passes and a room at the Hyatt. We're arriving Wednesday and leaving the following Tuesday, but at least one day will be spent out at the Six Flags amusement park. Michael needs a roller coaster fix!

I don't think the Little Black Dress challenge ever officially 'ended.' I'm still working on a Gaeta/Centurion for it... :B

Hooray, another Squeer to D*Con! If I didn't already have a person to room-mooch off I'd offer to go splitsies... omg the Squeers should get a room together. That'd be nuts. XD

I hope your leg feels better!!

    Gaeta/Centurion? 0.o

    Actually, I'm rather curious.

The Squeers getting a room together would possibly bring down DragonCon with its AJ squee, lol.

I look forward to seeing you there at any rate. Our jackets must meet. :)

    From: [identity profile] tin-o-biscuits.livejournal.com
Yeah, Gaeta/Centurion. And I've actually got it rooted in pretty plausible territory, believe or don't. XD All it's really lacking right now is a proper ending.

And if AJ "disappears" they'd totally check the Squeer room first. Maybe is better if we stay in different rooms after all. XD

Hooray jackets! Mine should arrive this week. :D

Oh, I wasn't saying the Squeers shouldn't get a room together. I'm just saying that the force of its squee would be a presence to reckon with! :D

And thanks for the leg sympathy. It needs it.

    YAY JACKETS!

Where is your awesome AJ b/w icon from, btw.

I so hope we don't terrify AJ. D:

    I have no clue, actually. I think it's just a semi-recent headshot. :3

Ohh man, you're doing Dragoncon? I was very strongly considering it because I really wanted to do it this year. I don't have any plans yet at all and I'm willing to pitch into any group effort to get a room. It would be me and one friend who is driving up from Florida. But I have some references if you want that will verify that I'm good for pitching on on rooms and stuff.

    Also, kittens. <3

I really wanna go! I need to actually make room plans or get with someone who is good at that sort of thing. Room first, airline after.

Well, sadly, the host hotel that still had some uber-expensive rooms left is now completely booked. But I've found a hotel that seems quite nice and is only six blocks away on the same road as two of the host hotels. It's also significantly cheaper. Their double occpancy rates were certainly within reason for what I'd expect to pay in any major city, and if you have a AAA membership, the rate is even 10% cheaper.

I have to give first dibs on spaces to a few RL people on my flist, but I have now made hotel reservations to accommodate 8 people, and so far there are only 3 confirmed, so if I have spaces left over once those people have decided, we could definitely work something out.

Or if you don't want to wait in uncertainty, you could try this hotel I found and book yourself a room. I don't know how much money you have to throw around, but if you can get a reasonable flight, it might be affordable. Email me (it's on my user profile) if you want details.

Either way, it'd be fun to meet. :)

    From: [identity profile] blue-crow.livejournal.com
Oh totally understood. I don't blame you. I was just hoping not to have to scramble to find hotels and stuff, so I might take you up on the hotel information. It might be enough just to know where at least one other person is. ^^

It would be! It should happen.

If blind envy makes you feel better, you've got mine :) I wish I could go to DragonCon, but unless I can come up with a damn good reason (like getting paid to go), it's not happening. ::sigh:: Ah well.

What pairing is the dark fic? :) ::eagerly waiting for stuff to read so she can procrastinate finishing the Gaeta/Jake fic even more::

Awwww! I'm sorry to hear that. If it's any help, Orbitz is selling red eye flights on the 3rd pretty cheaply, and I could give you a lead on a hotel that is surprisingly reasonable and (at least online) seems super deluxe. If you want details, drop me a line using my email address on my user profile.

The fic is a Gaeta/Seelix fic, a couple of months after The Circle. I hope to be posting it tonight. Thanks for the interest!

Yay! Can't wait for new fic from you *can't believe how long you kept us waiting, missus!*

*blushes* Thank you so much for the rec. I just read your latest comment. It's not often that comments make me cry but yours totally do. You've been such a great supporter of my B/G series. I can't thank you enough! *hugs*

    *waits for your new fic*

I know! I've been writing a decent amount here and there, but not finishing anything for quite a while. It feels good to get something done!

Oh, I love the B/G series. I couldn't not gush about it. You don't know how thrilled I was when the B/G fandom had died down to a low ebb and then you and [livejournal.com profile] lls_mutant and others suddenly popped up, people who were willing to write these two. And you especially have been such a great source of B/G fics that will stay with me for a very long time. *hugs* Thanks for helping to revive my ship fandom!

Yaih for new fic! Especially if it's for this challenge which you know is very dear to me. :) And I'm very much looking forward to reading that Hoshi fic as well.

I might do an entry on translating "Hostile Witness" tonight (it already is night for me, mind). Also, I'll get down to our fic as soon as I can. I'm excited that we're about to get started.

Anyway. I hope the leg feels better soon. :)

Aw, thanks! I'm sorry I took so long with our fic outline. I hope you don't feel like I took over. I'm glad you're still excited about it.

And ooh! I'm very curious to see what you have to say about "Hostile Witness."

The leg sucks. But chiropractor tomorrow. He has *magic hands*. :)

Btw, I noticed you posted some about Dollhouse recently. Are you still into the show? I was as dubious at first, but I've been slowly converted.

I hope you don't feel like I took over.

Not at all, don't worry. I was impressed to see how close we are to completing the outline. I love the ending you made up, too. Much better than anything I could ever have thought up. Hence, excitement.

I still watch Dollhouse. I'm starting to like it quite a bit, too. Figures that I'd start getting into it right when it looks like it's going to be canceled. ;)

But heh, great that you're watching it, too. There could be crossovers! :)

I just posted that entry on "Hostile Witness," BTW.

Oh,YAY!!!! I would *love* to meet! We should totally hang out. I hope there's a Colonial Frak Party these year.

    When are you getting in?

Oh, and btw, let me express relief that you are not annoyed with me about your fic. I felt like I did the worst beta ever on it. It turned out I had stayed up all night the night before to write my BSG finale review, and because my brain wasn't working so well, I forgot your story until the last minute and was running on no sleep in 24 hours. So yeah, I was made of fail. My husband actually had to finish my email to you for me because I kept falling asleep on the keyboard trying to write it. I promise to do a MUCH better job with a beta next time.

Btw, did you ever post it? I haven't seen it if you have.

I met some Colonial Fleet girls who said they were the leaders of the Fleet and that they weren't going. But I did hear Aaron Douglas is going to host a party.

Awesome! There's supposed to be a big party per Aaron Douglas so here's hoping!

I think we're getting in on Thursday night (my friend Anna and I), or at least hopefully depending on flight prices.

I'm not annoyed at all. it was so very last minute with my writer head blockage and all that I was impressed you managed to have time for it. And no sleep for 24 hours - I'm even more impressed! no worries, chica.

I got it submitted in time for the challenge and I'm posting it on my LJ tomorrow. anchors away!
